What a great evening’s entertainment! Singing to an appreciative audience, the Swifts sang their hearts out at their recent charity concert in Holy Trinity Church!
In the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress of Chelmsford, our programme included songs such as ‘Pick a Bale of Cotton’, ‘Mamma Mia/Money Money Money’, together with some of our old favourites: ‘You Raise Me Up’, ‘Bring Him Home’, with some really lovely new ones ‘Skye Boat Song’, ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’, ‘Scarborough Fair’, to name but a few. We were lucky to have Fiona Hill as our guest soloist, an accomplished clarinetist and saxophonist, Fiona played Suite from the Victorian Kitchen Garden on the clarinet during the first half to a rapturous applause.
Even the Mayor, Alan Arnot, did not escape performing! He was called upon by our Musical Director, Clive to ‘assist’ at the piano and between them gave a flawless performance of Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance in G Minor. (I think both of them have played a little piano before!).
The concert raised money for the Mayor’s charity Essex Air Ambulance and the Mayor can look forward to receiving the impressive sum of £650, the total proceeds, which has helped him achieve his goal of £30,000 whilst he has been in Office. The Mayor said ‘This was a magnificent effort and it means we can proudly write the sum of £30,000on the giant size cheque at the presentation ceremony next week’. The Essex Air Ambulance is a worthwhile charity relying solely upon the generosity and goodwell of the people and businesses of Essex to remain operational and saving lives. The Swifts were proud to support this worthy cause.
Thanks as always to our lovely audience; we hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed performing it.
